Ballpoint sketch
If I'm not using a Polychromos to sketch with, my next most preferred tool is a ballpoint pen. I can still get good variation in line weight, and explore things lightly before comitting with a heavier...

Mermaid study
An example of a rough study where I use my favorite pencil - Indian Red Polychromos 192 by Faber-Castell. I really like the way this color looks for sketching. For me, better than the straight-up black...

Jess Logo
For Comic Con, I needed a charariciature of my wife for some signage. I wanted a vaguely 1950' feel. Probably should have added some sparkles!

Ochre Mermaid sketch
This was originally a sketch with an Ochre pencil - one of my preferred tools for rough sketching. I find it easier on the eyes than a black pencil. I liked how it came out, so I worked to make it a...

Katrina Van Tassel Pumpkin Lager label
A fall-inspired lager for the fanciful beer label series. Again, really just an excuse to draw a chatacter from one of my all-time favorite Disney features. "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mister Toad"...

Snow White Stein Label
Another fantasy beer label. This was a swell idea my wife had, as a series that could be stickers or maybe even pins one day! I really enjoyed the challenge of designing an appealing bottle label....

Walking Lion sketch
A quick sketch I made - I was pleased with the semi-straight lines here and there. This is the sort of rough that I think would look nice as a finished ink!

Fox Beer Label
A rare all-digital drawing I did for a friend's beer bottles. I wasn't anywhere with a scanner, so I was compelled to draw this on my travel Cintiq. I was very happy with the way his thumb came out on...

Mermaid Shadow
Drawn traditionally, and colored in Photoshop. This is a different sort of srawing style for me - more minimalist and slightly flatter in the approach. I tried more subtle colors than I've used in the...

MerHair 0021d copy
A Mermay submission from 2019, or 2020. Can't remember. I was happy with the concept - a little bit of story inside a drawing makes it more enduring, I think...

Me, after a day in the Mojave
One of the rare pictures of me. I'm usually behind the camera, and I'm usually in the desert. Mojave, or Death Valley.( I noticed a lot of people thought I was sunburned. I wasn't, but they did point...

Dream Catcher
So this is the last drawing I finished for the San Diego Comic Convention. It's with right now. She's done an incredible job with two other drawings of mine. I must say, that of all the crazy stuff...
